Tournament FAQ

1) Is this tournament free? Who can enter?

Yes this tournament is free, however to participate you must be 18 years of age or older, be a citizen of either the US or Canada and have a registered Xfire account. A game copy of Call of Duty® 4 (PC) or Team Fortress® 2 (PC) is also required.

3) Where should I go for support issues?

For any support issue, you can open a Support Ticket, or by simply clicking"Support"once logged into http://xfire.nvision.com. Live admins will also be available on IRC in channel #xfire.nvision on the irc.gamesurge.net network during scheduled match times.

5) What's up with the team selection process?

Due to each tournaments limit of 64 teams, reserved spots for the online tournaments will be made for those teams that have at least one member who has a confirmed GeForce LAN at NVISION 08 ticket and complete team rosters. The remaining tournament spots for each game will be based on a random lottery for teams that have registered their entire team rosters for NVISION 08 by the close of registration on July 30th at 5:00pm EST. Not all registered teams are guaranteed an entry and a wait list will be created after the initial lottery. Wait list teams are highly encouraged to show up on the date specified, as it is not uncommon for a tournament to use waiting list teams for 20% or more of the first round matches.

6) I'm signed up, but when do I play my match?

Matches for the Xfire Call of Duty 4 (PC) Countdown to NVISION 08 Tournament will begin on Sunday, July 27th.  Matches for the Xfire Team Fortress 2 (PC) Countdown to NVISION 08 Tournament will begin on Wednesday, July 30th. All weekend matches will be schedule to start at 3pm EST, while matches during the weekdays will begin at 8pm EST. Friday matches will start at 5pm EST. Reminder emails will be sent to each player before the event starts. It is your responsibility to check your schedule and match server IPs in the My Matches section. Matches will be played on central servers!

7) I know when my match is, but how do I play?

To start, it would be helpful to read the event your game's compeition guide (linked above). All matches are played on specified servers that will be assigned via your My Matches page. Make sure you have PunkBuster downloaded as it will be enforced for all matches.

When it is your scheduled time to play, simply connect your assigned match server. After the match, it is the winning team's responsibility to report the score via your My Matches page. If a dispute arises, you will need to either open a Support Ticket or find an admin on irc.gamesurge.net in #xfire.nvision.

Team captains, please be certain your team is familiar with the official tournament rules (linked above).

8) Can we reschedule our match?

If BOTH teams are unable to make the match date and time specified on the schedule, both teams will need to open a support ticket. Pending an admin's approval, both will teams will be permitted to reschedule to a date and time within 22 hours of the original match date. However, the match must be played on one of the team's private server, to be agreed upon by both teams. Remember, the match score must be reported via My Matches within 22 hours of the originally scheduled match. If the score is not reported, both teams will be subject to a double forfeit and removal from the tournament.

If one team is present at the scheduled match time, and their opponents are not, the team that showed up will be awarded a forfeit win.

9) I was in the correct server at match time, but my opponent didn't show. What should I do?

Be sure to either open a Support Ticketor tell an admin on IRC (#xfire.nvision on irc.gamesurge.net) if your opponent does not show up or contact you five minutes after of the scheduled match time. An admin will award you a forfeit win and advance you in the bracket.
